Whether in a personal or professional development context the formula is consistent. Those who have access to more perspectives and understanding of reality, will have more influence over how it shows up. How much awareness do you have of the underlying principles running your life right now?

The symptoms of our struggle are so seductive. They sit on the surface, alluring us to misinterpret them as the problem.  If only we could fix this symptom all life's struggles would ease.  When the real gift of these symptoms is pointing us to delve deeper, beyond them to the layers that once addressed will truly transform this human experience.

So how to know you are working to address the true cause of the struggle or just the symptoms?

Step 1 - Reflect

Take an objective look at your existence, without judgement or celebration. With open kind eyes look at all aspects of your life. Self Identity, Relationships, Community Connections, Health, Business/Career, Contribution, and Growth.

Step 2 - Refine

With an honest baseline of your current state, list the things that get in your way of realising your truest potential.  Refine the list to you top 3-5 things. Look for the ones that make you feel uncomfortable. That's where the opportunities lie.

Step 3 - Congruence

From this list, check for congruence.  For each item ask yourself, is it within my power to change this way of being, or is it projecting the change onto someone or something else.  If it within your power, keep it on the list.  If it is not within your power, see if there is anything held within the item that is within your power and rewrite it, if not remove it from the list.

Step 4 - Explore

Delve into the depth of potential for each item in your list.  Ask yourself why, at least 5 times to go deep.  Embrace the inner child or curiosity and exploration.  Watch for the lure of distractions in this part of the process.  A distraction could be shifting to defending or blaming the situation, avoiding the truth as it arises, using patterned coping mechanisms to avoid exploring. When done authentically this can be a transformational process.

Step 5 - Take Action

Now take action to address this cause, this inner lack, and watch your life transform.

Last week my experience of this was reflected in working with a new trainer at the gym. They provided a deeper understanding of what was holding the body back, where the tightness in the body created dis-ease and reduced mobility.  As we scratch the surface of the perceived issues, root cause was so much richer and when found had an innate known factor to it.  As if the truth of the problem had finally seen the light of potential resolution and a sigh of relive could be expressed that we are on the track to healing this persistent injury. Stretching before a workout now has meaning - it can be objectively measured as either progress or needing refinement in the expression of the action as the desired result is not being achieved.  There is congruent action once that aha moment is realised.

Do the work, see beyond the symptoms, and ruthlessly delve into the depths of self to unearth the realisations of transformation.
