The Kindness of Being Ruthless. How to propel your personal development.
Updated: Feb 3, 2024

To have the courage to face the reality of a situation may be uncomfortable and yet a worthwhile endeavour. What platitudes of niceness are you sharing with yourself. What opportunities lie within the honesty of looking with clear eyes at what is really going on for you. What potential are you leaving on the table.
So, what's the difference between nice and kind. Why does it matter? Or does it at all?
When we come up against life's challenges, how often do we get nice responses from well meaning friends and family - it will be ok; you're doing well considering; you're doing your best; it can wait till tomorrow. These nice responses help us appease the struggle with platitudes, distractions, and deferment. Sooth away the struggle in the situation we are facing. While another pattern could be the cruel responses you've got running on the inside to yourself - you're never going to be able to change; you're not worthy; not good enough. This is also not a helpful strategy to enable you to reach your full potential.
There is a better way. You can leverage the momentum of the struggle and propel yourself forward into the unknown. Try a kind response - do it anyway; be ruthless with your commitment to this change; how might you get out of your own way. Notice there is no self-pity or deprecation in kindness.
To truly break free from our habituated patterns, a more kind and ruthless approach will help. It can take courage to face a situation head on and break through the nice/cruel self-talk to leverage the momentum that comes from sitting in the struggle, facing the reality of it and making consistent choices to change your way of being in the world.
Acknowledge the struggle and get on with the plan anyway. Watch your life transform. Be ruthless with your commitment to realising your full potential.
